With social distancing measures looking set to continue, it might be a while before you’re able to engage in some of your favourite public activities. However, adding a classic conservatory or orangery to your home will make staying at home that much easier. Far more than just a place to soak up the sun, today, either can be used for a whole host of purposes. From an extension of your kitchen to a stylish living, games room or home office, the choice is yours!
Conservatories
Conservatories are mainly constructed from glass, so they allow natural light to flow inside for bright, pleasant living environments. Here at Premier Windows, we use Planitherm Glass which has a special coating that actively reflects heat back inside the conservatory. As the frames of our conservatories are built from naturally-insulating uPVC too, they trap huge quantities of heat inside, which leads to a comfortable living environment.
Those who want to maximise the flow of natural light should opt for a glass roof conservatory, but for an even better thermal performance, we recommend a tiled roof conservatory instead. If you already have a conservatory but you still need more space, we can extend your existing conservatory too.
Orangeries
A traditional orangery has significantly more brickwork than a conservatory, and at the top of these brickwork structures you’ll find a stunning lantern roof. Sitting around the perimeter of the lantern roof is a plastered pelmet ceiling, which can be fitted with speakers or recessed lighting. This serves to give the orangery a more homely feel, whilst allowing you to create your desired ambience.
Traditionally, conservatories and orangeries have significant differences. However, it’s now possible to combine design elements of both structures to create something that is truly bespoke.

We’ve got some excellent extension ideas below to give you an idea of the possibilities you can achieve with conservatories and orangeries. However, if none are to your liking, more images are available in our gallery. Plus, you can get in touch with us to discuss any extension ideas of your own.
